My brother, whom I lost in 1990, honored me by coming to me first before he went to the rest of the family. He wanted to know how I thought the family would take it. I think it's pretty much the same in every family - we already know, we are just waiting for you to tell us, and it doesn't make one bit of difference in our love and support for you.
Except maybe if you live in Georgia...hahaha
Anyway, the only one who had a problem with it was my extremely macho Mexican father. But he never stopped loving my brother as his son.

A lot of people would most likely be like, oh yeah that makes sense. The family on the other hand would take it really hard I think. This is why I have only told a handful of my friends and I will tell any other friends that ask me, I am not ashamed I just don't think it is that big a deal because it is the way I am. My parents will eventually figure it out but I don't see why I need to tell them its my life not theirs!

Well I expected my family and especially my friends to react well but I was also prepared for the worst if need be. I first came out to my best friend who was surprised but cool with it, then again she has to moms so I was hoping she'd be alright with it. Anyways, I then told the rest of my friends and all of their reactions were good and I did not lose a single friend in the process. After that I told my parents and my mom said that "Love knows no gender." and my stepdad said that he already knew, he was just waiting for me to tell him when I was ready. The rest of my family were fine with it except my grandma who didn't take to it very well at first but she eventually came around and accepted it. Overall I was pretty lucky with coming out and all of my family and friends reacted the way I thought they would when I came out.

I completely believed that when i told everyone that i was gay they would all immediately hate me and disown me. I was petrified that me being gay would cause all of my friends to hate me and my family to reject me. I was wrong however. I became even closer with my friends because they were very supportive in my decision to come out. My family reacted as any family would, sad and a little disappointed at first but eventually accepting and supportive.

Actually, I sort of knew that the ones that mattered would be fine with it. I knew that the ones that didn't matter, would be awful. I was right on both counts. Wouldn't change a thing!

My family wouldn't speak to me ever again if they knew I was gay.
I don't know how most of my friends would react, some of them are quite immature about sexuality while others are more level headed.

I imagined my parents would go crazy and scream and cuss. But, they just gave me hugs and told me they already thought I was. I asked how, my mom said, "All you ever talk about is girls. I haven't heard you once say a guy was cute."

If it turns out that I'm gay and I decided to come out to my family before i turn 18, I'd have to go through reparative therapy.

I used to ask my mom what she would say if I told her I was lesbian and she said she would disown me and make me move out. I finally had to tell her and believe me I was super scared.but she was cool with it eve asked to meet my girl and let her eat dinner with us!! It was really nice after all.
