For awhile now (few years) I've had a lump on my lower back, left side right where I bend like....3-4 inches away from my butt. I used to have alot of back problems because of it and they'd go away and come back, depending on my posture. But lately its been acting up again.

I haven't been to a doctor since I first noticed it, the walk in clinic doctor didn't feel it and my physio therapist thought it may have just been a lump of fat.

Its still there, and it is still painful...should I see a doctor? Anyone have any kind of idea what is it or can share a similar experience?

>>You know I have something that sounds very similar. Mine is my muscle seizing up(muscle spasm) because of my posture and hip bone rubbing up against my back bones (ok..so I don't know the real names of these bones) but you get the idea. When I sit with one foot tucked under my leg, it gets worse. When I sleep on my left side, it gets worse. I take ibuprofen when it starts up and put heat on it. Sometimes ice works better. A chiropractor gave me great relief from that.

I'd go to another doctor this time, and ask for an x-ray or MRI to be done. A lump could mean many things. If you go when the lump is present, they could do a biopsy of it, and send it off for testing. Does it grow larger each time it reoccurs? Either way definately inform them on how it affects your back. Hopefully you'll find someone whom is interested in finding out the root of what's happening. Good luck!
