ive had an extra florescent light -inside the protective cardboard- sitting on top of my aquarium. ... it's covering 2 of 3 openings to the aquarium.... i first noticed them 5 or 6 days ago searching for food, and once it was found- the excess fish food- over a period of a 2 days, they colonized the tube's cardboard.
i need to access the other two openings, but i dont want to really disturb the ants. their stay is welcomed--> they'll clean up all of the fish food and all........ so.................................. how can i move the tube without them freaking out and leaving?
if i DO move the tube, set it on the floor, and then put it back 2 hours later, will they re-situate themselves and continue their old routine, or will they abandon the tube? what should i do? i NEED to use the 2 other doors!

I wish I could help you. I am stunned at your welcoming attitude for the ants.
Try getting in touch with the entomology department at Mississippi State University. They are experts and would perhaps have a solution to your predicament.

Set them up a little picnic blanket and ask them politely to enjoy some snacks for a few moments while you do whats needed...
be sure to appolagize for their inconvenience.
