what would the affects be on the general population if their were no books, magizines, television, etc..(for extended period, perhaps a year, starting today) that would give them any feedback as to what the rest of the populace was wearing, eating, doing.etc..
in other words how would you act if you didnt know how everyone else was acting?

I think it would change for the better. All the media is is bad news, sex, and violence. People, kids And adults, get hooked on crappy magazines, TV, the Internet. I think it would be like a sigh of relief if the world had to live without it. People would be forced to do other things with their time. Like go camping with the family, go outside and take walks, play games with family and friends. I think it would bring people closer together. I think people would get healthier because they would be moving around more. And it would also cut out porn. I think porn desensitized men to a woman's body. And all those 'perfect' women on TV and magazines give young girls a bad self image. It creates insecurities. It creates anorexic and bulimic 12 year olds. Although the media does a lot of good, a lot of good books are written for educational purposes, the news can spread important information to the world. But really, most of it is useless crap that the media uses to try to get as many viewers as possible. But this is just my opinion.

Well, imagine how your life would be different if there was no such a thing as a supermarket.
You wouldn't starve; only the way in which you related to food would be different, not what it represents to you.
Mass media is a way for us to gather 'information'. If there was no mass media, we would simply gather information from other more limited sources, most likely those closest to us. In paleolithic times, it would most likely be the tribe 'elders'. Doesn't mean we wouldn't be influenced in the way we acted, or the things we wore, or the places we went, or anything. And it's also not to say that one source is inherently more or less 'bad' than another.
Catching a wild chicken with a vine snare, and roasting it over a small fire on a shaved wooden spit, and unwrapping it from a machine-wrapped package, putting it in a baking dish, and cooking it in an oven at 375 for an hour and a half are simply adaptations of a common enterprise.

I, personally, would continue to do the things that I'm doing right now. I'm happy with the style of clothing I'm wearing right now, and I'm on a restricted diet, so those things wouldn't matter.
I suppose I would worry about what was going on in our country and the world--politically speaking--but that's about all.
