Ireland is pretty laid back. England too expensive but still you could fill Flat with roomies to subside much of those expenses.

Ever thought of Northern Ireland? Very affordable and all the nonsense has died down now.
That person who said they are still fighting obviously is a moron- they're not- there hasn't been a death in years- which makes it safer than most US cities.
The police bases have contracted as have the military installations.
The problems were only ever confined to the riff-raff areas of Belfast anyway- when you actually see it- you'll realise how stupid the whole conflict was.
The countryside and smaller towns have always been as safe as anywhere else- the people are very polite and welcoming and far less on edge than the English as the poor old English are constantly being beaten down by the Scots and their own New Labour politicians.
Towns to avid in the UK- Bradford, Bristol, Wales (it's deathly boring) basically the areas with high migrant numbers.
Derby, Bath, Southampton, Portsmouth, Brighton, maybe even Leicester are all quite good. York is gorgeous but quite economically depressed.
London is mad- the prices are outrageous and the inner South suburbs are rotten- Brixton, Peckham and Newham are places to avoid unless you're looking for a knife fight.
Southall is also rubbish. Slough is too.
Rental prices are expensive in London- but London is far better serviced than the smaller cities, unfortunately- it would be more similar to a US city.

Yeah definitely visit the country you wish to move to before actually doing it (it'd be dumb not to). Research it all. If you love Ireland so much then do it!
Personally I'd never move to Ireland, I'd probably move to England (manchester haha, so i could cheer on my team) but if you wish to.. go ahead! Dublin seems cool, if you're into that
If I moved overseas it'd be back to home (Portugal) or England (Manchester) or even if I really wanted to, maybe France or something.

If you want to move, then move.
Be careful in Ireland - The Protestants & Catholics are still fighting - it gets ugly & violent frequently. It is beautiful though.
England is pretty but a snobby group to Americans - they are sure they are better. They seem to have equal problems with terrorist.

Visit both places first and see if you would like it before you make such a big move.
