This is an addon to some engine info I forgot to put in the first question...sorry about that.Anyways my engine size is 3.1 L and in response to the 2nd person who answered me.The reason I want to replace it is because my check engine light comes on when coasting down a hill or letting off the gas at certain times...it's not on all the time ex: When I start my car it's not on just in that case it comes on,now I recently got a tuneup and he said that the reason it's doing that is cuz the valve is stuck open, now we have a parts 1991 Chevy Lumina with 3.1 L engine and me and my dad we're gonna replace mine with that one...How would I go about doing that in a step by step process.Where about's would it be located and what does it look like? Sorry for the missing info....I hope that this gives you a little more insight.

Thanks

With the hood open, standing in front of the car, just in front of the driver, there is a round flat device about 4-1/2" across. It may have an electrical plug with 5 or 6 wires connected to it, or it may have vacuum line connected with a connector with 3 or so wires.
As for replacing it, there are three nuts at the base that retain the base to the top of the engine. remove the nuts, remove the valve CAREFULLY so as not to destroy the very fragile gasket. Be cautious also that you don't drop anything down the two ports that will now be open. Engine damage will result. Replace the valve and secure with the nuts, and secure the connections as necessary.
