My 9th grade teacher first made it completely clear to Me that commonly an informally Steven and Stephen are the same pronunciation but uncommonly a formally Stephen and Stephan bunk together.

Steven. The other two could be pronounced differently with more of an 'f' sound like stephanie. But generally most people say them all the same.

I think the STEVEN spelling is more masculine but I have a nephew who spells it STEPHEN. We usually end up calling him STEVE! --- What I mean by that is - you have to take the PH out just to shorten it to Steve.

The last spelling is pronounced Steff-on! Sounds more ritzy and European.

So in conclusion - I like the STEVEN spelling the best.
