I just wanna know how long it should take before I go into labor. This is my second child. With him I started having contractions and went to the hospital. I was 3 centimeters dilated so they kept me. I know this time that I'm dilated 1 centimeter. But I don't know how long I could stay this way.

I can honestly say it could be tomorrow and it could be that you will go past 40wks.
Sorry, I know you want to hear something else and I am not trying to burst your bubble...
My last pregnancy was monitored very closely because I was considered high risk through the middle months...that is another story. Anyway, from week 28-week 36, I was dialated at 2cm. I was finally at 2 1/2 when I had my planned c- section in week 38.
Could be because of the risk, but the doc did not find it odd that it lasted that long.
Hope this helped!
Good Luck!

It can go from 0-10 centimenters in 30 minutes to 24 hours depending on the work done by your contractions.

Hon, when your contractions are intense and 2 minutes apart consistently and it feels like the baby is about to drop out of you, GO! It may be too late.

If you are a long ways from the hospital, then you should go when your contractions are consistently 5 minutes apart for 1 hour.

Now if your water breaks, then go straight away.

Labor is a matter of consistent contractions over a period of 1-24 hours. The intensity of the contractions change as dilation progresses into transition which is right before you push the baby into the new world.
You will know when to go by the intensity and frequency of the contractions.

Now, if you are wanting an epidural to deaden the pain then don't wait til the contractions are 2 minutes apart. There may be no time for the epi.

DIlation starts right prior to delivery. It's not something that happends throughout your pregnancy. They kept you in the hospital when you were 3cm delated because it's sign of ongoing delivery. If you say you are on your 38th week, than there is not much left. You'll feel contractions before dilation. The doctor will say that you are ready for labor when it gets to 10 cm. But whol that process doesn't take more than 24 hours usually. If you have contractions now you should go to hospital. Otherwise just wait. And I don't know how did you figure out that you have 1 cm dilation now?

I stayed at 1-2 cm for 3 weeks I thought I was going to loose my mind I went 6 days over with my second child if you want to move things along I herd having intercourse helps thin out your cervix which is what you need to happen before you can go into labor seriously not trying to be funny

well my mom was dilated to one for a couple weeks, but with my son I went in the hospital (@ 8pm) dilated to 2, I didn't get past 3 so they gave me patosin (sp?) to speed it along and he was born at 2:17pm the next day. Good Luck. It won't be long now.

well you shouldnt be pregnant past 42 weeks. if you havent had that baby by then your doctor will induce you. your second one is harder i think. everyone says that your second child eveything happens quicker(with labor) and i think it takes even longer. i was early with my first son. and with my second son i had to be induced a week past my due date.
