I notice when i was cleaning out his tank that one eye was extremely larger than the other. Is this an infection or illness. What percautions should I take to insure his health.

Yep, tht's pop eye all right. The very best treatment for this is Furanace. That's a name brand of antibiotic for fish. You should treat for at least 14 days, even if it looks well before then.

Pop eye is only a symptom of an internal bacterial infection and not a disease in itself. If your fish is still eating, I'd recommend feeding it a medicated (for bacterial infections) food. Otherwise I've had some limited success by combining Naladixic Acid and Kanamycin Sulfate. Pop eye usually appears after the disease is far advanced and difficult to treat. A lot of water change is also a effective treatment.

Placing the afflicted fish into a quarantine tank will allow it time away from its tankmates.

Could be popeye--sometimes the whole eyeball can come out of the socket if left untreated. It's an infection. Treat immediately (look for a medication that says it treats popeye and follow the dosing and treatment instructions fully).

It is popeye, treat your fish at once. Time is a factor.

Ignore cold hearted people who say to just kill it.
