I am currently serving a year tour in Iraq and am slated to take my 2 weeks R&R in the beginning of September. Orginally, my boyfriend and I had planned on taking this fantastic trip to the Bahamas! Then yesterday I found an online trip planner which allows you to see the weather for the past several years for your location.

Rain, rain, thunderstorms, rain...

So now I am stuck trying to figure out a new destination! The dates cannot be changed; I either go then, or I don't go at all (not an option haha).

I definately want somewhere warm (like Iraq isn't warm enough haha) with nice beaches, good nightlife, fun things to do for a late 20-something couple. We're not really interested in history or anything like that; we just want 2 weeks of fun in the sun, drinking, partying, and seeing a different part of the world (so outside the US).

Would love to hear some suggestions from seasoned travelers. Money isn't really an issue because I plan to blow a ton of money on this trip!

Some ideas I've had so far are the Canary Islands, Ibiza, and Aruba. If anyone has visited these places or anywhere else great, I would love to hear your stories! Thanks so much!

Somewhere WARM with beaches... so, not Alaska, but you're welcome for the 2 points.

Hawaii sounds nice, but I could go there anytime... can easily catch a hop flight out there. Definately looking for somewhere outside the US.

Also, have been to Mexico, so not there either (sorry, I am picky).

South/Central America is definately an option (I'm a Spanish Linguist and my boyfriend is hispanic so it would be fun to go there!).

Don't forget, beaches!!! And partying!

What about the other side of the US, heading down to Acapulco and the Baja Peninsula? Of course, there's always Rio de Janeiro, which is basically a big tourist party city if you avoid the slums. I'm a big fan of Costa Rica, which has some great getaway spots in the middle of nowhere but also a fantastic capital city (San Jose) with a good nightlife--and you can drink the water! Or what about the Greek islands? Warm weather, beaches, great food, and used to US partyers.

Honolulu, Hawaii on the Island of Oahu.
The weather is outstanding 80 to 84 degrees with a constant beautiful ocean breeze which makes the warmth very nice. Get in the shade and it is great with that breeze.
Pack a pair of flip flops, bathing suit, sun glasses, t shirts, and you are ready to go.
When the sun goes down that breeze continues and it is now 70's until about midnight when it drops into the high 60's.
Very romantic, warm, waves for playing in, good food, sleep, reading , partying ,etc.

Buenos Aires! US dollars are 3 to 1. You can get a steak dinner for $5. its very European, they are in the southern hemisphere (so its late summer now). and they have a great nightlife.

How do you feel about Africa?

Cape Town is beautiful in September, it's spring and everything is lush and fresh. By mid September it is pretty warm, too.

You can check out the weather here: http://www.cape-town-family-holiday-magic.com/weatherincapetown.html

and this is my favourite beach:

There's lots to do day and night http://www.cape-town-family-holiday-magic.com/cape-town-things-to-do.html

and if you're into nature at all, September is THE best month for whale watching here.

Wherever you go, have a happy holiday!

A friend of mine was over in Iraq and used his R&R to go to Thailand. He said it was the best trip of his life.
