How can i get my music copywritten legitimately? i saw some online copyright things but i dont know if that really works but i didnt look into it too much cause it didnt give alot of information anyway. but i heard to get your stuff copywritten it takes a while is that true? and how much might it cost?

You can do this at the US Copyright Office – see the last 3 links in the source box. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Despite what others state, a "poor man's" copyright is NOT the same as registering it. Here's what the US Copyright Office has to say:

"The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a 'poor man’s copyright.' There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration."

If you wrote it, the copyright is yours until and unless you sell it. Post yourself a tape of the songs and don't open the package, if you are worried, then if there is ever a dispute the package can be opened in court to show that you already had written the songs at the posting date.
