Why do teens think its "cool" to be in a gang?

I know two friends that joined a gang and my brother wants to join one as well.

Might be because they want to get attention from others , people are more scared of them because they might have wepons and power .Later when they realise that they are wrong and its not cool and more to be in a gang , it would be too late because by then they might have committed murders, drugs , robbing or gone to jain.:

it's instant acceptance from others. others meaning the ones who are also in the gang. i'm sure it has something to do w/ confidence to. i just think it sounds rediculous myself that anyone would want to be in a gang.

Belonging to something is enticing.
There are bowling clubs, sewing clubs, army posts, foreign legion posts, boy scouts, etc. All sorts of clubs.
As people become more mature, they join less offensive oranizations.

Teens' thinking are identical. They think it's cool to hang out in a group VS single (whom they view as a loser).

being in a gang shows weakness, their strenght is in numbers and not of one self

I think it's cause then you'll have respect from other people.
