Smoking should not be banned all together. As a non-smoker, I think it should be the choice of an individual. However, I think that it should be banned from all public places. We have all heard the talk about how bad second-hand smoke is, but the real issue to me is how the smoke clings to your clothes and your personal things(ie. clothes, car, etc.) and you have to smell it the rest of the day or sometimes even longer. The fact that smokers are so selfish as to smoke in restaurants, entrances to buildings, and many other places non-smokers, who hate the very stench of the terrible habit, have to go on a daily basis. It is one of the most rude, disgusting habits on the earth. However, if people want to smoke on/in their own property, have no problem with that.

Smoking is harmful to your health as well as everyone around you who is exposed to your second hand smoke. You can get lung cancer from smoking or irritate your body further if you already have allergies. I realize that many young people don't want to believe that this can hurt their health, but at some time in the future it is payback time for lighting up these casket nails in earlier years. I read in a magazine that you inhale 4,000 chemicals every you suck on a cigarette. When you smoke, capillaries in your body become restricted, thus limiting the blood flow to your skin. This is the reason why many smokers have that kind of a gray look on their facial skin, because they are unhealthy. When you are smoking, your breath smells bad, your clothes stink, your house smells of smoke.

So why would you want to start smoking or continue smoking. Better leave it, since it is not good for you - it is good only for the billfold of the cigarette manufacturers. In my youth I also smoked, and I smoked much. When I think back to those days, I could kick myself for ever smoking. Banning smoking in all Public places is fine with me. What the smokers do in their own home, I don't care about.

If smoking were banned, I'd have never started! I wouldn't have been able to buy cigarettes at just 13 years old and go hang out at the mall and smoke! Luckily after having major health problems at the ripe old age of 23 I havent smoked now in 2 months!

All bans on smoking must begin with the premise that second hand smoke is dangerous to non-smokers. Without this premise, the argument doesn't work. The reason why these bans have been so controversial is that the premise is not a verifiable fact.
