Well, you could slip through the cracks. Maybe. But I think you'd still have to pay property tax, if you were being a good citizen. You'd need to use the road that taxes built, if nothing else. You wouldn't have any income tax, though.
But you know, it's a VERY hard life. You would be so busy surviving that you wouldn't have much time to enjoy yourself, go to the library (tax-funded), visit a museum (often funded by public money) or watch PBS (funded partially by the gov't, I think). It *could* be done, but paying taxes and taking part in your community and government makes life easier.

Who would you pay them to? However, if you bought anything, like shoes, you might have to pay sales tax. And if you owned the shack, you'd have to pay property tax.

You would be required to pay property taxes, assuming you own the land you're on. You only pay income tax if you have an income.
Now, get off your butt and get a job, millions of illegal immigrants on welfare depend on your tax dollars.

You would have to pay property taxes,but if you had no income you would not have to pay federal or local taxes.If you bought any goods you would have to pay sales tax.If Democrats gain power you will pay taxes on just about everything.

Dude, I totally want to be a hermit. But only if I can have my TV and Internet access and Asian foods (Tia, Chinese, sushi, Indian...) and ice cream and clean sheets and indoor plumbing. Than I will totally me a hermit. Sign me up.

HA HA HA HA! The government always knows you exist no matter what. They choose not to expose that they know you exist if you do this. They don't care about people who do this b/c as far as they're considered, you have nothing to contribute to the country.

If you have no income, you don't have to pay taxes; but I believe you still need to file.
