The person is hard headed. Probably has one track mind. Unless what he or she is firm about has been demonstrated to be a universal constant. How many universal constant do we know?. The way we perceive the world and make opinions about it, is extremely flaw. We think we know, when the truth is, we just have opinions, which most of the time are just plain prejudice. It is not a virtue to be firm, unless the base for firmness is a virtue.

Being firm generally means that the person has made up his mind and will not change their position.
Its like being stubborn but without a negative connotation.

synonyms-----of solid structure, steadfast, resolute, ( of offer etc. ) not liable to cancellation after acceptance
When a person is firm, it means that the said person is not going to go back on their word. When they say they are going to do something then they are going to do it, no matter what, they will not go back to their word.
