Stand-up style, Toes up style (In this style a goalie will go down to stop the puck and will kick their pads outwards with their toes pointed towards the ceiling.), Butterfly style, and Hybrid style (his style of goaltending is a blend of all styles, where the goaltender primarily relies on reaction and positioning to make saves. Hybrid goaltenders will make kick saves, will utilize the butterfly, and are generally not as predictable as goaltenders who rely heavily on the butterfly as a save selection. While this style is generally not as utilized in the NHL, three goaltenders who have had great success in recent years using it are Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, and Ryan Miller.)

There are three main goalie styles.
1.) Butterfly - covers entire bottom portion of net if legs are extended out like a butterfly spreads its wings. Top corners are left open.
2.) Stand-up-you need good footwork on the ice to have use this style. It is better for controlling rebounds and lets in less five-hole goals scored.
3.) Inverted-V - Stand with feet apart and knees together. If your reflexes are sharp, this could be the style for you. The five-hole is left open and it's harder to move side to side.

Actually Brodeur is more hybrid than butterfly and I would actually consider him more of a stand up than a butterfly too. If you watch him this year, he is on his feet making saves more than I have seen any goalie be on his feet in recent memory. He really combines different styles to what is called for but the above poster that said that Brodeur is all butterfly is way off.
