Min Pins tend to be higher strung as a rule. If you want a similar breed try a Jack Russel or an Italian gray hound. All are small short hair and full of energy. I would rate the min pins at a 6 on the risk of getting a bite with 10 being the rabid cujo mentality.
Note: All dogs can be socialized to accept being handled roughly, like by kids who do not know better, But it requires work and dedication on your part to acclimate the dog to your rules. You might take your child or children to a dog obedience school and sit and watch how the dogs react to the situation, Talk to the instructor and maybe get your kids used to the proper way to treat our best friend before you introduce a dog of your own into the family.

I have three kids and my mom has two Min-Pins. The are pretty good with the kids as long as they aren't too rambunctious around the dogs...they seem to get nervous. I think it would depend on how they were raised. My kids aren't around the dogs too often, so they aren't used to the environment. I would say both the kids and the dogs would be fine. And the fact that Min-Pins are easy to groom makes less mess. Good choice!

I have a miniture Pincher and I lover her to death, but my youngest brother is nine. When little kids to come over though she gets up tight and she will show her teeth at them. Maybe that is just her or maybe it is with all min pins. But i think if they grow up with little kids they will be ok.

MiniPins tend to be a bit hyper and nervous, not a great mix for small children. Have you thought about a beagle?
