You may have deleted your previous copy of XP on your computer already(keeping XP's install files will help you should you ever need to re-install XP again). If you have your computer's system restore disk, that can help you. Try using the XP disk again, only try to do a clean install this time(which wipes EVERYTHING off your computer, drivers and all and)it will allow you to install XP again. So I recommend that if you have a neccessary programs or information,or documents that you don't want to lose when you install XP again,I suggest you store them on a flash drive,or a few floppy disks,or even burn a CD or two. I don't know why it wouldn't let you do it though,I have vista and it let me re-install XP. I hope this helps,or you could try to call microsoft customer service and see if they can help you out.

If you need to replace windows vista with windows xp, you need to format your computer before booting into vista. for this you need XP setup CD which is bootable (as often present). Switch on your computer>goto Bios> change the startup options to your cd drive as your boot device 1 and your hard disk as boot device 2. Now after doing so, change your settings and restart your computer WITH YOUR XP CD inserted. once you do this, XP setup will start as soon as your BIOS operations complete. once this is done, you can enter the setup and configure your setup options, such as formatting your Vista drive to make way for XP.. ofcourse you will lose data from you vista drive. make a backup before installing xp

Insert the XP installation disk and then boot your pc with your cd-rom as your primary boot device..how to do this?? When your pc is just starting to boot up continuously press Delete in your keyboard until you see your BIOS settings. Go to the Advanced Settings then choose your cd/dvd rom as your primary boot device. Save the changes and exit..
Your pc will now reboot and when you see the screen where you have to press any key to boot from your cd/dvd rom then just press a key..
from then on, follow the steps given to you by windows...

well, in my opinion you can uninstall vista first, then install xp.
But why you want to move to xp? isn't that vista is better than xp?
