3800+ = 3.8GHZ Intel equivalent.

the amd athlon 64 3800+ dual-core, assuming that's what you've got, clocks at 2.0 ghz usually, just googling I saw one that clocked 2.4. But that's not the only factor. It also has blazing bus speed (aup to 2000Mhz almost 2 ghz), by comparison my athlon xp 2400+ clocked 2.0 ghz but only had a bus speed of 256 mhz, I think.

It's a dual-core and may compare well to an intel with a higher clock speed. Apparently when they keep the clock-speed down at around 2.0 with a dual-core, they can get better performance overall.

In fact I think AMD makes better processors than Intel, nowadays

When comparing processors made by different company's (eg AMD and Intel) look at the Millions of Instructions Per Second (MIPS) because the more instructions per second the faster that it will go, different manufacturers Ghz ratings can be different.

It's more-or-less equivalent to a 3.8GHz Pentium 4. But AMD marketing's "performance ratings" have become less and less relevant over time. In fact, they're scrapping them later this year.
