I just moved here a few months ago. I like it so far. It is certainly a beautiful pplace. Great views of the mountains and the water wherever you look.

There are homeless people but they seem to be really laid back. I have not actually been asked for money yet and i walk through downtown and Belltown pretty often. I have only seen them walking around so far. Where I used to live I would be approached and asked for money sat least once a day. I usually got yelled at by some deranged homeless person once a week or so. Nothing like that here. You will see them around though.

Crime seems pretty low for such a big city. There are some sketchy parts of town but most of it seems really safe to me. That is more than can be said for most cities this size. You still have to use some street smarts but I would say your chances of running into trouble are extremely low.

Be aware that the cost of living can seem very high here depending on where you are coming from. I am from the midwest so i am used to paying half as much for a much bigger apartment than i have now. It is not just the rent either. Everything is more expensive. I was shocked the first time i did pur weekly grocery shopping.

Not sure about jobs. Depends on what you want to do i guess. My wife found a job before we even moved here. I have been here quite a while and not found a real job. I have a master's degree and i have been doing temp jobs for $10 and hour. I get the feeling there are a lot of people here looking for the same kind of work though.

I am not exactly a young person anymore but i am not so old that I do not know what young people like. Seattle seems like a pretty good place for young people to me. It has kind of a cool vibe, there is a lot to do, there are a lot of young people around and the people seem friendly.

Like any big city the downtown area is going to have homeless people and crime. But it isnt anymore than ive seen else where. For the most part it is a safe and friendly city, basic common sense is what you need to stay safe (i.e. dont walk in dark alleys alone, dont wear flashy jewelry in the bad part of town, i.e.)

Depending on what field of work you are looking to get into is going to determine how easy it is to get a job. But honestly it is a great place to work, good pay, cost of living is fairly low. I have a lot of friends and family that moved up here because of the job oppurtunities.

Seattle is very social, there are a lot of places singles go just to meet other singles. I dont think you will have a problem with that. Theres a variety of differently people from all walks of life that live in seattle.

As for the colleges, We have quite a few colleges that are for business, there is only one i can think of off the top of my head for just fashion. But almost every university and community college offers fashion and business.

Good luck!

Ooooh, first of all, Seattle is wonderful and the best city I know. (It is my hometown though :)

There're a ton of colleges close by, both four-years and cc's. Also the UW, which has a fancy business MB program. They certainly do fine for undergrad business there - I've got a brother who doing both under and post grad there in business. One of my friends is at Seattle U studying fashion, so I know at least they've got a program.

Dating - hmmm. Well, people are generally pretty friendly, so it'd be easy just to strike up conversation with folks on the street. Recreation is mostly outdoor - skating or boating on Greenlake, trips out to Mt. Rainer or the Cascades or the peninsula for hiking, hanging out at the beach.

There are a lot of homeless people in Pioneer Square downtown, and the downtown area in general, but I don't know if it's more than usual for big cities. I don't think Seattle's much of a hotspot for crime - it's just the area's had a lot of very high profile crimes over the years (Ted Bundy, Greenriver, the DC sniper, some weird shootouts that made it to national news). Actual everyday crime is below national average though, I believe.

Best things about Seattle: nice people, laid-back, outdoorsy atmosphere, green all year, tons of fantastic hiking, skiing, boating, rock climbing all nearby. People are non-competitive in general - not at all like the east coast; a lot of schools don't name valedictorians on principle. I plan on going home when I can - I love it! Good luck to you, whatever you end up doing :)

If you love the rain and gray clouds you will love Seattle. We are in the evergreen state. There are a lot of nice colleges, everything is very green, and tons of things to do entertainment wise. People are for the most part friendly. Crime is as it is in most big cities. You probably wouldn't want to walk alone at night etc. Oh and it rains almost all of the time, that's the dow side of Seattle. Pikes market is a nice place to go, however you will see a lot of homeless and different types of people there.

There is the University of Washington there. There are also a couple of fine arts schools that would have fashion stuff.

There are a lot of normal big city things to do in Seattle. Outdoor activities are popular because there is lots of water, forests, and mountains close to the city.

The crime and homeless problems are probably similar to most big cities.
