most people are selfish, but they dont know they are like that!! and, well, we also have high expectations of people!! like me, i have a super nice friend, i love him so much, but sometimes, he wont do anything nice for me!! i always buy him a candy or some thing, and he wont do that!! i dont know why!!! but, the, i think, "well, he doesnt buy me candies, but he is my bff because he listens to me!! he waits for me after classes, and because he trusts me and i trust him!!" so, he is selfish some how, and i wait for him to buy me a candy, but he is nice in some other way!!! so, maybe, we are the selfish ones!!

The second one..
Our expectations of people are too high....

i mean think about it..its like only if we expect a lot from them we allow ourselves to let down our guard and trust them more and more..thereby building our expectations higher and higher
then all of a sudden when they do something wrong..even if it is a minor thing..we feel so violated that its like ur world comes crashing down....
so basically..its the 2nd option

2. our expectations of people are too high. It's the media. They control everything. We are all in search of the perfect lover, the beautiful man or women, slim and muscular, and it's because of this media image the ones that are good, pass us by. It's sad really.

1 and 2. I've found the most common problem is that we hold others to a much higher standard than what we ourselves wish to be held to. We want others to let us slide on our mistakes, but we want to rake them over the coals for the same thing.

how about being selfish and having no expectations of others. that's the only way to get to the top, not necessarily always by crook though. altruism is a demeaning concept, don't you think. how can you sacrifice youself for 'others'(who clearly don't give a damn for you) if you have nothing to offer?
it doesn't mean you have to trip everyone who gets ahead of you.
