American media causes stereotypes. For example, I was watching this comedy show and they show a latino character in a neighborhood whistling at an american blond and saying in a cholo voice, "Hey Blondie."

I get offended by that because they try to make us latinos look like perverts that like american girls. I don't even like american girls.

We have nice looking women and blondes, brunettes, red heads with green, blue, brown, gray or honey colored eyes within our own latino communities and countries and a lot are even better looking that american girls.

Just watch the telenovelas to get an example. We prefer our own women to drool over. I would much rather drool over a Colombian girl like Sofia Vergara anyday than that blonde american girl in that comedy show

Anyway, in our towns back in our countries of origin, we have nice looking women.

Stereotypes are harmful when people treat you different because of the brainwashing they do on the media.

Definitely, that's one of the main causes of racism. Even though we aren't exposed to different races all the time, the media gives us bits and pieces to form stereotypes and biased opinions. It loves to show the "armpit" of all races--feeding bigotry everywhere.

Of course.

The media stereotypes most all races. Most people are more sensitive when it pertains to their own though.

Like the series, Girlfriends. I don't exactly hate that show, but it's obviously a stereotypical driven show. Every single character fits a black woman stereotype. Joan is the lonely black woman who can't find/keep a good man. Tony is a self-absorbed, gold-digger. And Maya, with the "oh hell no" is the shows resident ghetto girl.

And the funny thing is, shows that stereotype, are usually pretty popular; Girlfriends, The Chappelle Show, Mind of Mencia; those shows get pretty high ratings.

Oh good Christ yes.

I do not remember the name of the show but there is a current one that has a family of Gypsies stealing the identites and moneys of a dead wealthy family.

American media has a fascination with both the "Gypsies as theives" image and the "Gypsies as happy-go-lucky hippies" image. Oh, and the media likes to portray us in flashy "Gypsylike" outfits (they usually get it waaaaaay wrong). The media also likes to portray us as still travelling in horse-drawn wagons. The media also enjoys making us all palm readers and fortune tellers, along with theives. Or mysterious, exotic strangers, oooooooeeee-ooooeeeeee-oooooo.

A large amount of Americans, courtesy of the media and other sources, do not think we even exist! A large amount of America thinks that what a "Gypsy" is is nothing more than a lifestyle or we have all died out.

It is annoying.

No, the behavior of the majority of people of a certain race create stereotypes.

I don't like the jewish media. They seem to promote the image of dumb blondes, the incompetent white men, and black "hip-hop" anticulture as a good thing.
