To ninety percent of the population, voting is purely emotional. This means that they don't actually analyze the choices, but rather go with their gut feeling, loyalties, or whatever. The best two ways to play upon this are to take a popular stance on a major issue (think of how many people vote for the candidate simply because of their stance on abortion, gay rights, etc.), and to identify with them (be a regular guy or gal- it shows them that you are in touch with them).
You can also try smearing, but that can be risky.
Remember, that most students will give probably one thought to the election (even if it's a big deal to you), so make that one thought a good one. Don't suffocate them with issues and whatnot, because the vast majority of them honestly don't care about it that much. Good luck!
