What is wrong with my 96 ford taurus transmission?
when transmission gets hot, and i make a complete stop the transmission will not shift out. i have to tap on the brake pedal and it will jump back into gear. it shifts out fine until i stop again. could this be a sensor or is something internally wrong with the transmission? I just bought it a week ago, but the transmission is full of fluid, and the fluid doesn't seem to be burnt up!?

I had a 97 ford Taurus and the transmissions are a weak point on the car. But you know what is going to happen if you drop in a knew transmission it will get wrecked. That is what happened to my Taurus less than 3,000 miles on it and a guy pulled out in front of me. but the engine never did quite and i could have driven it home.

Ya I don't think on first glance this is a serious replace tranny issue.
Sounds like the transmission linkage is not returning to its full upright position when you let off the gas. there is a linkage that goes to the tranny it feels loose and should be when the car is off. You might drop it by a trans place and get a free quote, THEN LEAVE and see about fixing it yourself,,,

Another avenue would be to return it to the dealer and convince them that they knew it was bad or if you bought it from an individual call them and ask them what is up with the tranny, make them feel bad enough to go 50/50 on repairs

Another problem may be a bad motor mount pulling on the shift linkage knocking it out of gear if it something to do with the linkage you could test it by trying to shift it down to 2nd or first gear instead of hitting the brake.
