Yes, tennis is an Olympic sport. I think it was added to the venue during the 96 Olympics in Atlanta. I want to say that Sampras won the men's singles and Davenport won the ladie's singles.

Yes tennis is an Olympic Sport- It's in the summer Olympics.

Tennis was originally in every Summer Olympics from Athens 1896-1924 when it was dropped over a dispute about amateurism and professionalism. It was added back to the Olympic program 1988.

The following events will be competed 2008- singles Men, doubles Men, singles Women, doubles Women.

The information about Tennis being the only Olympic sport to allow professionals is not correct. Professionals compete in many of the sports, for example Baseball, Soccer, Handball, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, and even Track-Field where top stars earn over $1 million in prize money and endorsements.

In fact Boxing and only a few other sports are what you would call amateurism.

Yes - though can someone explain to me why a professional tennis player can compete in the Olympics when all other sports are for amateurs only? Surely Justine Henin-Hardenne was already earning money on the tennis circuit in 2004 when she won gold?

Sure, it is, and has again been since 1988.
Earlier, due to certain controversies, it was removed as an Olympic event, but now it has been restored.
