My sister-in-law is pregnant with her second child. She is right at 10 weeks. She had her first "real" Dr.'s appt. today where they did the full pelvic exam. Her Dr. told her that she was already dialted to a one. Is this normal??
She was very concerned, but her Dr. told her that unless she was cramping or bleeding that this was okay. I've never ever heard of anyone dialating that soon. Should she be worried about a miscarriage or is this something that has happened to other mothers out there?

Any thoughts would surely ease both of our minds. Thanks!

I could see how you guys would be concerned. I have never heard of this before. I would assume though that if the doctor isnt concerned then it must not be to big of a deal. Though I would say that if she is still concerned to get a second opinion (from another doctor not Yahoo Answers)

Well I have been dialated a little over 1cm since I was 26 weeks and now I am 36 weeks. I guess if the doctor said it's okay it is then. If it continues though she may be put on meds and bedrest like I was.

If she were in any danger her doctor would have warned her not to do certain things, maybe bed rest, medication, or hospitalization. I have never heard of this, but if the doctor is not too concerned, then try to relax. She doesn't want to get too stressed out over this, because stress could send her in to a miscarriage. Best wishes to you all and take a deep breath for that little one.

Dilation shoulndt be occuring at anytime during the beginning of the pregnancy. Although I knew of someone that did and was put on bedrest and had a perfectly healthy baby girl. If its of concern the doctor will keep an eye on it and will know what to do. Best wishes!

common contractions increasing and toddler pushing down is what inflicting effacement and dialation. basic cramping and braxton hicks are not usually sturdy sufficient to reason any exchange. in ordinary terms a notice although right here, at 36 wks they gained't give up hard artwork till there's a medical reason too.

According to a nurse that I spoke with, Most women do not dilate that early, however, as long as she takes it easy, and isn't cramping or spotting she'll be ok.
IF she starts cramping or bleeding, TAKE HER TO THE ER QUICKLY. That can be the early signs of a miscarriage.
Some women just dialate early, and they are fine throughout the pg.

I was dialated at 1 or so through my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. Her doctor will keep an eye on it and I'm sure she will be fine.
Tell her to rest easy - she's probably fine.

i din't think it was right but if the doctor says it is okay I guess it is. If she is unsure it is well worth getting a second opinion. I wish her good luck and an easy pregnancy

i've never heard of this either....but i would think if it was a big concern that the doc would be doing something or would have said something, right?...
i would say that as long as she's going to a good doc and she likes him and trusts him, that what he says is correct...there are always a lot of things, i'm sure, that "we" never hear of that's normal to a doctor...
good luck and congrats to her!!
