Just wondering what the general concensus is. I've been accused of this and couldn't figure out why. Do you find that ppl do this a lot? Sometimes I answer questions where ppl seem to need help, but then when I look at their profile, I find they're well, shall we say, a little off. I'm not trying to be uppity, we're all "off" to some degree. I mean something suggests to me they just want to get a little attention. Do others find this to be true?

There are definitely people who are just here to rile people up and get as much attention as possible. And there are people who seem to be here exclusively to get a wide range of people's opinions about some subject they find interesting.

I think it's possible to be doing some of both at the same time. The Society and Culture fora seem to me to be particularly rife with questions that are both meant to get a genuine response and rattle some people's cages.

You are far from the only one who has gotten accused of grandstanding for attention. I think it's an unfortunately effective tack to take with a question you don't like - even if it is a logical fallacy. (ad hominem)

Well, to answer your question and not sound uppity, I do
think people sometimes ask questions for attention.

By attention, I mean that their question is more of a statement
about their position on a certain matter, their belief, their
political persuasion - rather than a question that is really in
search of an answer.

A lot of people need help in making decisions about something, or need advice, etc. Questions should be used
for this purpose...not to promote a personal agenda or personal philosophy that will not change, regardless of the
answers received.
