Try washing with hydrogen peroxide. The handy release of oxygen when it contacts organics and or infection should kill those nasty bacteria causing the stink, and lighten up any hair you have on them too. I say that is a reason to be happy. So be happy and STINK NO MORE!

Did you wash the mattress pad too? Hopefully you had one
on your bed, otherwise you may need to wipe down the
mattress where the vomit landed. I would use a white vinegar/baking soda mix in warm water and gently blot the
area with a clean cloth. That may help lift off or lessen the
odor that lingers. Don't get the mattress too wet, it takes
forever to dry out, so be gentle, then place an old towel over
the spot to soak up any dampness. If you still smell something, try some Febreze spray, it usually works but is
a little flowery.

Like Caiman94 I used white vinegar and baking soda mixed in warm water and gently blotted the area with a clean cloth. But I got the mattress too wet. So I pressed on an old towel and dried as best I could and then finished off with my hair dryer.

Try cleaning the spot where the sick landed right away then dry it off ,and when my son does this i do the cleaning bit toss the mattress over to the other side as he has slats on the under side of his bed the area still gets aired and leave the window open.

Did you use Chlorox? At this point, I wouldn't worry about bleaching colors, just get the smell out! A cup of Chlorox added to a washer full of hot water should do the trick.
