Depending on where exactly in Dr. Phillips you are looking at, you could be literally right across the street from Universal Studios, or be within a 5 minute drive from Walt Disney World. DP High School is actually located directly across the street from US, that once school gets out you'll see a bunch of the students walk across the street changing as though they're going to work.
Anyway DP is a great "suburb" of Orlando, FL, where it could be nice and quite (as long as you don't live off any main roads or too close to the attractions), yet close enough to everything so you don't need to drive for 30+ minutes just to try and find a grocery store. The area is also extremely welcoming and "homey" looking/feeling, with nice landscape, and beautiful community signs (with all the letters). Good luck on your move, if you get transferred. And feel free to ask if you have any more questions, which I'll try my best to answer.

Dr. Phillips is an area in Orlando. As far as I know it is a nice area. I live on the other side of town. You correct in saying that it is in the vicinity of universal studios.

DP was a Dr. in Orlando in the early days and became a bit of a land baron (citrus...oranges)...the city is named after him. It is a toney section of Orlando (southwest Orlando) and is known for it's good restaurants, expensive houses and of course it is around universal area...it's on the back way into Disney too...it's a nice section of town...you are with a stones throw of tourists central but it's not really apparent unless you drive for 10 mins in that direction. I live in the northeast section of the metro area...we are about 45 mins away. If you are getting tarnsferred into oralndo the southwest will be a definite option...it's fairly new and one of the hot spots for sure, but there are many other sections to consider...downtown orlando is nice too...of course if you have kids then schools are teh most imprtant factor...like i said I live in the northeast metro (seminole county) where the schools are all A rated...orlando (orange county) is kind of a mixed bag for school quality...welcome to orlando!!

My husband got a job offer at Disney Corporate and that is where many folks at Disney suggested looking at. They have good schools there also which usually means it is a good area to live. They also suggested Winter Garden, parts of Windermere and maybe Celebration. Good Luck---we turned down the job because of the high cost of living the Orlando area has!

It's a nice area and expensive area depending on where in Dr Phillips you choose to live. There are areas in and by it like Bay Lakes, Bay Hill where many of the famous Orlando people live.

One of the best areas in orlando to live in. Great community, close to everything, somewhat upscale, also consider Windermere...that is right next to D.P. and is a beautiful place in orlando to live in. I'm from that area and have always loved it.
