A college degree after a felony carries a lot of weight in establishing your rehabilitation. At 24 you are in a similar situation as veterans coming out of WW II. You will be serious and motivated beyond the antics of your newly free 18 year olds. You can avoid getting caught up in their games and kick butt. Go to class, do your assignments, review for exams, don't get lost in drugs and alcohol, and you will do very well. You don't have to decide a major until the enf of your second year—see what you like. A dual major makes you more desirable like almost anything and business, Best of luck!.

I started college at 26, after 8 years in the army. You have some benefits starting college late. The biggest plus is maturity. The kids right out of high school will treat college just like high school and not work as hard. Use your maturity and work twice as hard and get that degree! School is the only thing that will pay for itself in the long run. You can earn twice as much money with a degree than without. Get to work and hit the books!

College at 24 should be a blessing- think of the big steps you have already learned while the kids have not even begun to break away from Mom & Dad. The only down side is they will out number you- but when working in group projects they will tend to lean to your wisdom. Just be sure that you approach the new college life with respect- stay on top of your tasks and give in a bit too and have fun with the kiddos!

If you are serious, you can go to college at any age, up to age 90. 24 today is like 16 fifty years ago. Think of it this way: Now you are older, wiser and have more experience. As for the felony, don't let that define your life. Ghandi was a felon and so was Nelson Mandela.

You are definitely not too old to go back to school! I'm 32 and going back to school next fall. As for what your major should be, think about what your interests are and see if you can fit any of them into a career. If that doesn't work, talk to a career counselor. I just finally decided what I wanted to study after many years of wondering.

Yes, go to college. I am 25 years old and I am graduating with my 4 year degree next month. There was a guy in most of major courses who could have been my dad.

If you are worried about balancing finances and school, and how to work and go to school, check out online education.
An example:
American InterContinental University - http://www.aiuonline.edu
There is also Education Direct, and University of Phoenix Online.
If nothing else, you can speak with an admissions advisor and they can guide you, very similar to a high school guidance counselor.
Good luck!

You can't live your life worried and always wondering "what if??". Always remember, your past does NOT dictate your future. You need to press forward and make something good out of your life. Go to college - believe me - there are people of ALL ages in college. In fact, there is a man as old as my grandfather in one of my classes. Trust me, if you move in a positive direction, life has a way of opening up doors that you would never expect, irregardless of any dumb choices you made in the past. There are MANY successful people in this world who have criminal histories. You just may be able to add yourself to that list one day!
Good luck and GO TO COLLEGE!

Please do it. I started college in my forties. Not only will you create a better future for yourself in the job market, you will better yourself. College broadens your thinking, gets you movin', lets you meet people, challenges your intellect. Do it and enjoy it. And your future employers will look at you as someone who took a good look at their life and got something great going on. You are empowered with an education.
