Why does erosion initially cause a mountain range to rise and then eventually cause the peak to decrease?

erosion has nothing to do with mountains rising. tectonic action/volcanic action do. all of the land eroded from mountains gets spread out by water, the largest bits being deposited first all of the way to the finest grains, sand, which make it all the way to the beach/ocean

because erosion is caused by the land moving and i dont think the land would sink in, making the mountains decrease.
