my family owns and runs a jewelry store! the way we make money, i'm sure, is like any other business selling a product. we buy from distributors (diamond sellers, etc) for a price. we then add a percentage to the cost thus making a profit upon paying the distributor for the merchandise. My mom's business also profits from watch repair as well as jewelry repair...my brother is a master craftsman and charges depending on the job.
