Any verizon customers having trouble with their phone today?

When someone calls my phone it goes straight to voice mail, and never rings. Some friends of mine have been having troubles with their verizon phones too.

I have not, but that has to deal more with the tower in the area. Sometime the cell tower reach the limit of calls that they can handle in one moment, but your friend (or who ever is calling you) can still call you b/c they are near a tower that has not reached it's limit.
This is usually not the case for Verizon, for them what usually happens is that a tower or switch goes down, and they have problems getting it up and running in a short time, thye do however fix it relatively faster than other networks, come tomorrow you should not have this problem, if you do it's time to give them a call.
