He is no more of a bigot than any other man would be who was born in the early 1920s and grew up between the two wars, absorbing all the attitudes and mild prejudices of that era.
It is far more bigoted of young, modern, energetic, intelligent people to show so little respect and understanding for where he has come from, when they pride themselves on showing so much respect and understanding for other minority groups. People in their eighties are a minority group too, and they deserve to be allowed to be themselves.

I don't think he's a bigot, I think that he speaks his mind. I don't think that he means anything by it, he just has a dry sense of humor and it can put people off.
