If you are fond of Yamaha go for the TT-R125L or the TT-R230. Just see which one fits you best. The only other real offerings for a 14 year old beginner would be the Honda CRF150/230, Kawasaki KLX125L or the Suzuki DR-Z125L.

My son is 11 years old, is just under 5 feet tall, and weighs about 105 lbs. He currently has a Yamaha TTR 125. Since you are older, you may want a little bigger bike. My son suggested that if you have a Yamaha dealer close to you, that you go down to the dealer and talk to them and see what they recommend. They will have different sized bikes that you can look at and sit on, to see what sized bike would be good for you. And before I get a lot of heat from people saying my son is too young to have a dirt bike, let me just say that he has and always wears, all of the necessary protective gear, and never rides without supervision.

You should be able to find a good dirt bike in either 80 or 125cc in Yamaha. Both are 2 cycle engines and are geared to give them a lot of power for small bikes; You will have as much power as you need. The bikes will be short for dirt bikes, but taller than "mini bikes". At your height they should be fine.
Look around until you find a good used one and see if you can test drive it. I am sure you will like such a bike very much.

hay im 21 ive riden alot of bike and 14 a good time to start a good bike to get at you age in my opinion is a kaw. 125 it will last you a long time i bought my first 125 when i was 13 i thought it was too much bike and if you buy a bike yam. or decide something else and think its too big before you sell it go to the dealer and ask for a larger rear sprocket by like 3 teath it changes your ratio making it have a little more acceleration but slowing it down after you get used to that jump back to stock and you'll be ready to ride tear it up little buddy keep the sport alive watch stewart in the mx and then you'll want a kaw.

Hay in case you'll locate one for that fee i'd pass for a 100 twenty 5 Yamaha airborne dirt and dirt motorcycle, it set low on your length and has each of the capacity you'll ever choose, i'm 6 ft tall and that i love driving the 100 twenty 5 yamaha, i imagine the 250 Yamaha and Honda sense somewhat tremendous even for me... From what you reported about Push motorcycles you received't choose a lot help or preparation, do exactly not get cocky using the undeniable fact that 100 twenty 5 will devour you for lunch....

Great answers from "Spoiled", "CMHS", and "Larry B"

I also feel the 125 might be fine for you to start on. And it's true that 2-strokes are a beitch, but they really haul too.

And you are fine starting at 14. I started at 12 and couldn't get enough of it. I started with a little 80.

Now to that twit "Ian M": I happen to work in a library you bonehead (a law library albeit)...so think before you go dissing something you know absolutely nothing about. And since you obviously know nothing about motorcycles either maybe you should beat feet out of here.

all of my boys ride alot stick with a four stroke unless you like to work on bikes . two strokes are fun but about double the maintenance. the new honda crf 150r is just about perfect for your size plus it has gobs of power for you to grow into. depending on where you will be riding. we have hondas kawasakis and a yamaha they are all good its just honda is the only one now with a racy 150
