It is the ratio between the circumference of a circle and the diameter.

so pi = cirumference/diameter

the value is 3.14159 roughly. So the circumference of any circle divided by the diameter of that circle is always pi. Its an infinite number, meaning you can calculate to an infinite number of decimal places without an answer.

It has been calculated out to 1.2 trillion digits as of 2002, it might have been done to more now.

hope this helps.

pi is the ratio between the circles circumference (distance around) and its diameter (distance across). It is found by Circumference/Diameter. It is 3.141592653589732384626433832795028841971693993751. This is not all of pi because pi is an irrational number, meaning that it goes on infinitely without repeating.

"Pi" repeats itself a lot in different things which gives it different definitions. First things first.

- Pi is the sixteenth letter in the greek dictionary
- Pi is the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of any and all circles.
- Pi is an antiviral drug that interrupts the effects of HIV
- Pi is the title of the lead scientist in research studies

pi is the relationship between the diameter of a circle and its circumference. it is an irrational #, so 3.14 and 22/7 are only approximations (an irrational # is a # that goes on forever after the decimal point and is not repetitive.

Pi is the number 3.14

It goes on infinitely, though -- it does not end there.

Wikipedia has a wonderful illustration of Pi. The definition is this. When a circle's diameter (distance across) is 1, it's circumference (perimeter) is 3.14, or Pi.
