well-I think 12 is a good age.
what do you mean by 'need' to get started?
do you mean how do your put yourself out there? or like what kind of ...hmm...equiptment do you need?

When I first started I was about 12. I put flyers in my neighbors' mailboxes asking them if they needed help. At first I started being a "mother's helper." I would watch and play with the kids while the mom was home cooking or cleaning. Eventually that would lead to me staying with the kids while the mom ran quick errands. And evenutally I became a full time nanny for years. If I were you I would make flyers saying some good things about yourself (do you get good grades? are you involved in school activities? do you have siblings you take care of sometimes? etc...) Then include your age and phone number or e-mail and see if anyone gives you a call. In most states you do not need a certificate, it is just an added bonus to parents. Good luck!

I think you can get started babysitting @ 14-16... It's better if you can get refrences. Like if you have a family member that needs a kid to be taken care of tell them to write a GOOD refrence about you (dont put on the refrence that they're family!and have them write it like if its legit and start up on a resume too!!) and take some CPR infant lessons too it should be like$90 or so. It'll show that your mature and you want this as a career. Put up AD's around where you live @ but to be much safer give your ad's to your family members cuz they probably have friends with kids that need some babysatting.. But in the mean time try something easier like dog/cat sitting, dog walking, working in a clothing store...And if your old enough is better to start working on the books cuz the income tax checks is THE BOMB!!

I would start by babysitting for family or friends first to make sure it's something you want to do. If that works out you could make up some posters or flyers and hang them around in local stores. Alot of people do that around where I live. As far as what age you should start with really depends on your age. If your young you don't want to be responsible for babies. I would say 5 or so would be good. It also helps put parents, or potential clients, at ease if you know CPR and first aid, so it might be worthwhile to check out those kinds of classes if you want to make a serious business out of this. Babysitting can be really profitable and alot of fun. Good Luck!

Well i'm almost 14 and i do quite a bit of babysitting. I started by volunteering at my church and playing with the little kids. you could puit up some flyers and take a simple Red Cross Babysitting Course.

first...i do not know too many parents that would hire a 2 girl team...the first question that would come up is are they there to watch the kids or mind their own business?
if you settle that question, then i would go to the local American heart association office and take infant, child and adult CPR and first aid. make sure that you also learn the Heimlich maneuver.
you may want to also check into the local college to see if they offer a crash course in child care fro diaper changing, bottle making and feeding...
my neighbor (she's 14) charges me $10 a hour plus pizza for 3 kids, 6,4 & 2.
then after you get these credentials, have your mum or dad go to staples and get some sheets of business cards, print shop(r) and make some business cards and put them in the local laundry, pediatricians office and where your mum and dad work....
good luck

Taking a babysitting course helps because it makes people feel as though your mature enough to care for there kids. Start asking around. Ask people who you now have kids if they need a babysitter and make sure your polite.

It all depends on what state you live in.Do some planning.Try and do a first aid course because it is vital to do when caring for other peoples children so know you know what to do in an emergency.Secondly I would put out feelers if people need babysitters in your area.

13 is a good age.. you should probably take a class in first aid or baby sitting so you are prepared... i sugest you do some first aid research... look up what to do in different cases (cuts, eating poison, punctures, electrocution, burns ect. try MayoClinic.com, very useful [im13 and i found MayoClinic helpful for when i baby sit]) i think that its a good idea to work with a friend. you should also get a list of emergency contacts (adult friend, police, hospital, poison control, ect.)
