I use to think I wanted horses too until I watched my neighbor take care of his 5 horses and now you couldn't run fast enough to give me a horse.
As another friend told me,it is a horse's objective everyday to see if it can eat itself to death as they are nothing but an eating machine.
They need to graze on regular grass/clover.
If there isn't enough grass, they have to be fed hay and even at that there are some hays that they can only have a small amount of as it can cause them to get an upset stomach and to get the scours (diarrhea).
Then they need grain when there isn't enough hay/grass as in the winter but they can't have too much grain or they can bloat and once they bloat they could possibly die.
There are several shots they have to have to prevent disease.
There is the hoof care and it has to be done on a regular basis by a furrier.
Then you have to "currie"(comb/brush) their manes/tails
on a regular basis because if they get tangled it is next to impossible to detangle.
Then there is the stable cleaning.
No matter how much space you have for them they generally find one place where they have shelter and it will fill up with manure and to stand in that can cause hoof rot.
Then we talk about the cost of saddle, bit, reins, cinches and blankets and the up keep or replacing of them.
Now lets talk about the fence repair and upkeep.
Even seeing my neighbor doing all of this daily, one of the horses was standing out during a thunderstorm and got hit by lightening.
Needless to say. . . . horses need ALOT of care and work.
Think this over real well before deciding to get one.

7 days a week 365 days a year, hon.
You sound like a horse-noob.
Go take lessons for atleast a year and get some expericence, maybe work a a horse barn. Go to some clinics, too.
You'll be surprised when you see the price tag of your horse, rofl.

Well, depending on where you live, there's feed questions you have to answer. Do you have plenty of pasture? Thats a plus! If you pay to board a horse, they take care of that for you, but at a price. I guess the best thing to do is talk to other horse owners in your area, find out what shoing goes for e.t.c. Shoing, feeding, worming are very important. Dont sell your horse, and yourself short by going for the cheapist price, it will cost you more in the long run.

Honestly they are a LOT of work. My partner and I always wanted a horse...I'm 27 and she is 21 we thought hey we have the money might as well. I truly wish we had waited. Although I Love our beautiful horse Cherokee. She is a lot of work and it truly is draining at times. Having to care for her, the feed, the hay, emptying the manure carts...the list goes on...vet bills....getting her hooves trimmed...And now we have to get a trainer because she's been testy and we cant do it...If you feel your ready then go for it...Its a joy to have one...but if you dont have experience...try taking some sort of classes first...then buy one...Regardless of what you do decide...Good Luck and I wish you the best!...

Well it depends on how much room you have. If you have a big field, it will get exercise from like just playing. But even then you will need to work him/her some. Probably not every day. Like every other day or so, for an hour or two. If you have him/her couped up a lot he/she will require more exercise. About two ta three hours

alot and if you want to know, you probably aren't ready for the responsibility. you have to feed them, clean their stalls, add shavings to their stalls, turn them out, round them up, bathe them, and even more. its a tough job.
