The sun heats the earth's surface. This heat can slowly radiate into the atmosphere or it can trigger convection. Convection results in precipitation which releases and redistributes latent heat into the atmosphere. Since the tropical latitudes recieve most of the sun's energy they also have the most convection. The energy released by convection in the tropics provides about 75% of the energy that drives the global circulation.

There is only one source for all energy on Earth- that is the Sun. However, the radiation from the Sun is treated in differing ways. It helps to think of radiation in two classes: shortwave and longwave. Shortwave radiation is directly incident from the Sun, and is either absorbed, scattered, or reflected from the Earth or from the Earth's atmosphere. The Earth does then emit this energy as longwave radiation, which is either absorbed by the atmosphere (hence global warming) or back into space. The atmosphere also emits longwave radiation back on earth's surface, which is again absorbed or reflected.
All of this constitutes the main energy budget. Weather is caused by this energy being used (mainly in the form of latent heat and sensible heat, being water and temperature, respectively) in certain fashions.

Good question. Here is a brief scientific answer. It is the potential energy that results from unequal heating of the earth and its atmosphere which is converted into the kinetic energy of atmospheric motion that produces all weather systems on the earth.

The earth warmed .6 stages in a century and that grew to become into as quickly as employing completely manipulated tips by potential of way of persons with a bias to look international warming. Even that minuscule quantity of warming is often usually exaggerated by potential of way of city warmth Island and the abominable state of the climate monitoring stations. they desire to place them next to air conditioning vents or on black asphalt for representation. Even employing those very nearly of course exaggerated numbers, you particular are not getting something this is worth aggravating approximately by potential of way of any sane guy or woman. people who look at a distinction of that fee over that element era, this is perfectly consistent with undemanding variations, and notice doom are merely finishing up hypothesis that may not everyday on something in the particularly international.

hmm..my first thought was the sun (of course) .. and I still believe it is the "major" player .. however - the moon is what affects the tides and a lotta weather is born of the ocean! So I tend to think the moon oughta get some credit!
