Boron is a metalloid. Different sites might say different things because Boron often has an incomplete octet.

Although it is on the metal side of carbon, its hydroxides are acidic (ever hear of Boric acid eye wash)? Probably best to consider it a metalloid.

Boron is actually a non-metal. This is because of its small size, high ionization energy & ability to form covalent bonds with other atoms to complete its octet.
