I came home from work last night, and my hubby told me that our two cats have been facing the wall all night. I turned the TV down and heard something scratching inside my wall. Well tonight, I hear it again along with an occasional squeak or something. It's driving me crazy! This wall is between my living room and my office and the thing has not moved from the same spot it was in last night. WHAT DO I DO NOW?!?!? I don't want to have to tear in to my wall. I would assume it came in from the attic but who knows! And what the heck is it?!?!? Somebody please help!!

Could be anything esp if your attic has a way for outside creatures to get in or if you have a chimney with no chimney guard(if open can come into house /walls through the chimney-usually also how they can easily get into walls when looking for a way out for although can fall into chimney cannot climb back out. I'd be checking my attic out for if the animal, could be squirrel, small possum, bird, mouse and even Rat.(there are field mice and there are field rats the big ones ar called Norway Roof rats for will through roof get into house if not Roof not solid and animal proof) gets trapped in the wall(s) cannot get out will also starve ,no water then also Die in the Wall and the stench-stink will be horrible-happened to one of my sister's neighbor and when I went into house the nearer I cam e to the part of house where dead animal in wall the more gagging , the more sttronger the smell became. It also takes weeks.Mos depending on the size of the animal for it to rot away and can be a serious health hazard since(not all) can carry diseases. Important reason for attic to be checked to find how animal(s) getting into house walls-if two mice who happen to be male female get into attic walls of house and mice can live eating sheetrock, insulation, tubing ,wood etc multiply very fast like every 2-3mos have litters of 9-10 who at 3weeks are able to get pregnant-mice do not live long so the maturing process is short. Imagine the damage they can do in your house for mice chew all the time(same with Rats), can also chew wiring and you ill be unaware until major damage-can also cause fires by chewing electrical wiring. There are people (listed In Yellow Pages ) who Specialize in Critter Removal from Attics,Houses and who also Repair so no animals can get in again. Not just the damage possibilities but the poor animals suffer terribly before they die-starvation very painful death for either animal or human.

If it goes on for another day or so, I'd consult an exterminator. If a cat or some other critter has fallen down into a wall...it will likely die there and then you'll get to enjoy the smell for quite some time.

Trust me when I say that the smell of a dead animal (in my case a possum) is NOT pleasant and lingers.

can't get in from the attic, found a hole inside the house, or in the basement. I suspect it is a mouse, or squirrel, that fell into the space from a hole and can't get out. Just relax, it will be easier to find after about four weeks. Sorry.
