YES! It's very real. maybe it's regional- but everyone i know with babies has gotten the push present. first of all, they shouldn't have to be told- you're giving him the biggest gift of all- the life of his child, and your 10 months of physical sacrifice! The gifts vary- of my friends, most have received jewely. sometimes it's something with the baby's birth stone, or a charm bracelet, etc. a couple of my lucky friends got diamonds! others got rings that match their wedding bands.. one friend's hubby got her a designer bag that she had wanted forever... i think as long as it's from the heart, it's a good push present. it's got to be personal, not just a run of the mill heart shaped box of candy.... unless of course your hubby knows that your favorite thing in the world is heart shaped boxes of candy!

I've never heard of it called a push present, but yes, I've heard of the father buying a gift for the mommy. "Shane Co" a jewelery company (dont know if its nation wide or just in my area) regularly has commercials about how a pink or blue saphire pendant (depending on boy or girl) are the perfect gifts for the new mom.

i have heard of it, most people to get a push present. traditionally its a piece of jewelry with teh baby's birthstone. A more modern gift could be a massage gift certificate (you're going to need it!) or a digital camera (the most important thing when you have a baby -jk!!)
It's just a little sign of appreciation for all your hard work.

I DIDN'T GET A PUSH PRESENT PER SE BUT SHORTLY AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO OUR SON, WE WENT SHOPPING FOR A RING, WITH HIS BIRTHSTONE IN IT FOR ME TO WEAR. AMETHYST...ITS GORGEOUS. I AM EXTRA EXCITED THIS TIME, CAUSE THIS BOY WILL BE BORN A COUPLE WEEKS FROM NOW, IN APRIL, SCHEDULED C-SECTION. APRIL BIRTHSTONE IS DIAMOND, SO WE WILL HAVE TO SEE WHAT IDEAS HUBBY COMES UP WITH. GOOD LUCK.
