Why not? I'm sure our sailors could use a little target practice.

If they don't give those soldiers back, we sure as hell will.
I hate those, "This has nothing to do with the US" people. It sure does. It has to do with the UN, since the British were there enforcing a UN resolution. So if military action is necessary, it will be the US, since the US is the only country that is willing.
For now, we should stay out of it because I think Iran is unlikely to hurt the soldiers and will most likely return them eventually. But after that, we need to do something to show Iran this is unacceptable.

It almost seems like the radical Iranian leadership wants/needs the US/Israel to attack it in order to give the Iranian public a reason to rally behind the theocratic extremist regime, who is rapidly losing support amongst its public.
Iran is beligerently asking for what the world is trying to avoid.
Be careful what you ask for.

You refer, I assume, to the America that likes to project itself as a non aggresive, non expansionist power with no colonial aspirations.
If that is the case, then why are you asking this aggressive question about a sovereign state that has a legitimate government, with no real threat to anyone in the west?
America does not have agood record of dismantling regimes and replacing them with peaceful governments. Vietnam. Iraq.
If you really want to hammer someone who is systematically abusing his power, why don't you go after Mugabe? If you want to sort out another situation, why not go to Sudan?
There are dozens of fights that the Americans could get engaged in, that might, just, have some merit - this is another one (Iraq anybody?) that has none.
You are so extremely gung ho, I've looked at your profile and previous answers. Have you overdosed on testosterone? Have you got a dictionary with the word "diplomacy" in it?

Um.... lets see. We're in a war with Iran, usually, when you're in a war, you try to protect your allies, protect your country, and... oh yeah, sink their navy! It's not a hard concept.

What's it got to do with America? I suppose the real answer is - "if they feel like it" as they do what they want anyway, and why shouldn't they? I'd rather live in America than Iran!

First you try to resolve it by peaceful means, as we did through the UN sanctions against Iraq. Then if that fails, sink the navy.

Why don't the US just stay out of this one and let the Brits fight. If you haven't noticed we are spending hundreds of millions a day in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are getting beat by homemade bombs. The US is going to be so bogged down with military expenditure and troop committment it won't be funny anymore. Maybe you will get drafted and go fight with Iran since that is what you want so badly.

If it comes down to another war, we can easily kick Iran's ****.
However, they control craploads of terrorist cells such as Hezbollah, so they can wage unconvential warfare on American interests...

We should before they get stronger or develop nuclear weapons. They may not be able to make nuke missiles for years but they can still make dirty bombs! Unfortunately the weak limp wristed liberals will never go for it!
