What should you do, looking at both legal and ethical obligations?

Run the car jacker over. You're in fear of your life. If you're able to speed up and turn away then of course that's the first thing you should do. Killing the guy is the course of last resort, but is an option if nothing else will save your life

Duck down a bit and put the pedal to the metal aiming for the shooter. Then head for a police station. There is no guaranty that the driver wouldn't have been shot at anyway, even if he gave up the car without resistance. Might as well make use of a 50-50 chance.

Start honking the horn and continue moving. The man will either get out of the way or your will probably hit him and roll him across the hood and onto the ground. I'm talking a fairly low rate of speed. Under no circumstances should you stop and the honking of your horn may attract witnesses to validate your action.

If some jerk stands in front of me and my car pointing a gun....he is road kill baby...He just found out what it is like to examine my tires tread...the hard way...and maybe make sure my oil pan is clean too....either way its him or me and My weapon is bigger!

you are not required to do anything. it is a dangerous situation and you should take care of no 1.
If they are hurt you might consider taking them to hospital or calling the police. That is it.

if the person has a weapon you can hit them with your car. this is legal. ethics differ from person to person, so that cant be answered simply.

Well, quite frankly, you report it to the insurance company! Their attorneys will need to know about this fact to help them litigate more effectively.
