Distilled water is literally water that has been boiled, evaporated and condensed - leaving all chemicals, toxins and waste behind and creating pure, clean water. Distillation will remove bacteria, viruses, cysts, heavy metals, radionuclides, organics, inorganics, and particulates.
Distillation is literally the method seen in nature, whereby: the sun heats the water on the earth's surface, the water is turned into a vapour (evaporation) and rises, leaving contaminants behind, to form clouds. As the upper atmosphere drops in temperature the vapours cool and convert back to water to form water droplets. Then once the droplets fall as rain (precipitation) the cycle starts over again.
This is exactly the same process in a water distiller - the tap water is heated to boiling point so the impurities are separated from the water, and the water then becomes steam.
Filtered water is water that has been run thru specific filters to remove (Mostly) chemical additives and metals in the water. Most inorganic and organic matter like nitrates are still in the water.
Distilled water is not recomended for use in an aquarium for the single reason it will not hold a high ph. It will remain at 7. If one is using a good water conditioner, this alone will add back the minerals needed by fish.
Filtered water is fine, however you should still be using a dechlor / water conditioner for your fish since filtered water quality sufferes as the filter fills with impurities.
Filtered water for your fish is fine.

RE:
Is filtered water distilled water? (water for my betta)?
I used filtered water today since I ran out on old tap water (that is the same room temperature) and my filtered water has been sitting in the kitchem atleast for a day so I used that. Is it okay?? I hope its not distilled water...whats the difference?

Distilled water is sometimes made by evaporating it when it is made into steam. When the vapors cool, only pure water "rains" down. Depending on the filter, some water is purer then others. As long as your filtered water was sitting in an opened container, and is room temperature, it will be fine. Some filters don't take all of the chlorine out of it, and that is why it is important to have the container of water uncovered.
I have well water without a water filter, and the lime leaves marks on the aquarium when it evaporates. As long as your water is filtered, you should not have a problem with it.

Tap water contains chlorine that can be harmful to all animals (humans included) but especially harmful to fish because they'd have to live in it if you use it. You have 3 options- 1. You can let the water sit in a container for at least 24 hours to get the chlorine out. Putting it through a water purifier or filter will not get the chlorine out. 2. You can get a dechlorinator or conditioner to neutralize the chlorine in the tap water (follow the instructions on the bottle). You can buy this at any store that sells fish supplies. 3. Use bottled water that has been purified by reverse-osmosis

There is a difference ... Filtered water is just that , water that goes through a filtering device that removes impurities or metals ... and distilled water is the water that is collected from the steam of the boiled water , in a sense the boiled water that turns into steam and then when is cooled down it turns back into water and it has different properties of clean-es .

Filtered is exactly what it says. The water has been run through a filtration system. It may consist of charcoal & other materials to remove impurities. Distilled water uses a process of steam & evaporation. Usually performed by boiling. Almost the same way the moonshiners made corn whiskey in the back hills of Tennessee.

Filtered water and distilled water are not the same. Distilled water has absolutely no minerals in it..it's completely vacant. Kind of like the look in my husbands eyes when I ask him to do the dishes. Filtered water has just been filtered, and is okay for fishies. Tap water is the best, though.
