My landlord works in the same dept. as my sister at our local hospital. She goes to work and tells my sister EVERYTHING. She even went so far as to tell my sister that my boyfriend beat me up recently which is totally outrageous!!! We got into a petty fight recently but there was NOTHING physical. It worried my whole family absolutly sick. She also told my sister that we have a new car and that we switched the plates on it... why that would really matter to my sister, I don't know, but that's the point. My landlord is a terrible gossip monger. Isn't there some sort of landlord/tenant confidentiality issue that she is violating?

Unfortunately for you, what you are describing is plain old gossip and it's not illegal, unless your landlord is getting this information from some sort of illegal surveilence of you or your apartment. If she's getting the info just from being able to observe what's happening at the property then she's not doing anything legally wrong. I think I'd be looking for a new apartment ASAP if I was in your shoes. You may also want to tell your sister to ask her to stop talking about you since your sister can talk to you directly. Good luck.

There no such thing as landlord/tenant confientiality. About the only thing the landlord could be prohibited from telling is the status of your payments/standing with the apartment company, and then only if the contract or a company policy says so.

Confidentiality laws generally only apply to those that you need to be able to have true and frank discussions with. ie lawyer, doctor, nurse, priest, etc.

Even your employer can talk about you if these wish, absent a company policy, but in that case the only course of action against them would be for the company to write them up/fire them. Most employers do have such policies, but again that's not even a civil case unless it's combined with some other illegal action.

*This isn't slander, the landlord reasonably believed this was a fight. Since there was a fight it would be impossible to prove that this statement was slanderous, and even if somehow it was the slander wasn't against the tenant, but the bf.

It may be unethical, but it's not illegal. She can not discuss your personal information, like your social, your credit if she pulled it...that kind of stuff. It sounds like your landlord may work independently as a landlord-but if she actually works under a company, you could discuss your 'privacy invasion' with her superior. I would also wonder who's side my sister is on if she is going to take your landlord's side. It doesn't sound like you have a landlord issue as much as you might have a family issue.

No, there is no landlord tenant relationship other than related to the housing, ie.. He must provide suitable housing and you must maintian it.

You may have a defamation claim.

These are just the things that you know she is talking about you. What about the things she says that you don't know about. If she is just the landlord, you may want to talk to the owner or her boss.

the most is you could go to court to be released from your lease due to land lord induced dis comfort.

Gossips are gossips and your sister should be putting her in her place for dumping it on her..

After court file grievence with BBB . help protect others from her.
