My chin sleeps pn here side all the time and it freaks me out. Other animals when they lay on there sides that means they are dead.

Chinchillas are basically mountain rats. They probably like to sleep that way, because it feels most comfortable to them. It can have something to do with their wild ancestors having to sleep in and on mountains. I guess they also can be considered a desert rat. If you take their environment into consideration, then you can probably come up with a logical answer yourself. Like how is their cage set-up? Do they have a nesting box? Do they like to use soft or hard bedding?

its easyer to breath when you are on your side because there is no presser on your lungs
