I've heard front loaders can cause problems due to more vibrations (faster rpm) than top loaders.

If the unit is balanced, there shouldn't be much vibration. Most if not all units have leveler on the feet. You shouldn't worry about water leakage either, if the seals are good, water won't leak out. There is an automatic locking mechanism that prevents opening the door if there's water in the drum.

Any washing machine placed on a wood floor, be it on the first second or third floor, should be placed in a galvanized sheet metal pan to prevent leakage in the machine damaging the wood floor/frame.

go ahead, new machines should be equipped with a simple wrench that turns the nuts on each leg , allowing you to level the machine.

We have had ours upstairs for the past 2 years...so far so good. I love it upstairs...no problems :)
