I need a new version of photoshop but can't afford one yet. I have a print that I sell and I want to make one print poster sized with a black border and white lettering. BUT, i cant figure out how to make the border wihtout cropping off the edges of my picture....is there a way?

Photoshop
Select-> All
Edit -> Stroke
choose “width” and ”color” border
Location -> inside
Blending -> mode= normal, Opasity= 100
OK

Image-> canvas size
Choose “width” and ”height” white lettering
OK

Changing the canvas size will add space around the picture. You can then use the paintbucket to fill in the border black or any other color or pattern.

The quickest way to do this is to increase the canvas size, select center in to dialog box and use the paint bucket tool to fill this area with black.

I shall reiterate that changing canvas size is easiest. photoshop 6.0 is good no need to upgrade, come on its photoshop either way its awesome.

create a layer above the layer you have then use paint the layer black then use the selection tool to select out a rectangle then delete the selected portion there you have it borders.
