You have never been through New Mexico? Every house there is a different shade of dark brown.
Here is red brick and charcoal or black roofs. why when it gets 125 in the shade in the summer is anyones guess.
Everyones house here use to be a white sears kit home.
NOw it is a mobil home.

some of the houses here are dark, my neighbors house is a very dark gray with black trim & roof

My house is lighter brick, though, with a light roof. It's hot here, and the lighter color keeps the home cooler.

Lighter colors tend to reflect sunlight. That keeps houses cool usually. In areas that are very warm, the houses seem to match the landscape. I wonder if that has to do with the fact that a stark white house would simply be blinding.

white paint was more expensive then colored in the old days.. so having a white house was more of a status symbol.. so kind of a traditional thing..
